How to Get Free Food

FOOD STAMPS

CHURCHES
Look in your local phone book for churches and ask if they have a food pantry. There will almost certainly be at least a few available in your area. Most give to anyone in need, regardless of whether or not you attend their church.

GARDENING
With food and gas prices going up, the number of Americans who are growing their own gardens has increased sharply this year. Growing your own garden is not that hard and gives you fruits and vegetables much fresher than what you buy at any grocery store. So why not give it a try?

FREE FERTILIZER
Go to local farms and ask them if they have any manure they'd like to get rid of. They will gladly let you take some. If you have one or more pet rabbits, you have one of the finest sources of manure, right at your home. Do not try this with any other common household pets, however. For green manure, almost any green plant will do.

WHAT IF I HAVE NO BACKYARD?
You can always grow indoors, along train tracks, or in a secret spot in the woods. Growing in the woods will limit you to vegetables that grow beneath the ground, such as potatoes and garlic, since visible fruits and vegetables will likely get eaten by animals. The same is also true for growing along train tracks as passing trains will leave visible plants covered in dust and other debris.

How to Get Free Payphone Calls with Free 411 Services

Most Free 411 phone services also connect you for free. Since most payphones allow toll free calls, I got to thinking, why not use free 411 services to make free payphone calls? A few days ago I tried this with the popular service GOOG-411 only to find that they block payphone calls. This led me to look into what other free 411 services are available (see here). Yesterday, I tried calling each of them on a payphone.

Listed below are the ones that you can call from a payphone, and get connected for free, saving yourself 50 cents. Simply call them from any payphone that accepts toll free calls, give them your listing, and they'll connect you.
